Spaces

Seeing my son for the first time

In over a week,

He looks older

He sounds older.

He’s had ten days of life without me–

baseball and school and Disney World.

Strange to hear about his adventures after the fact

Rather than witnessing them in real time.

Strange to have this space between us.

Then he wraps his arms around me

And he fits to my body

To my heart

In exactly the same spot.
